About Our Unique Weight Loss Facility
The Bariatric Center of Kansas City, located in Lenexa, Kansas, is the leading center for weight loss surgery in the greater Kansas City Metropolitan Area and the Midwest. First in the region to receive designation as a Center of Excellence in 2006 by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), we are proudly one of the highest volume weight loss centers in the country with over 8,000 operations performed since we opened in 2002.
More recently, the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation & Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP), a joint program by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), has awarded our bariatric facility program partner, Shawnee Mission Health at Prairie Star, accreditation as a Comprehensive Bariatric Center, an accreditation only awarded to those centers that meet the highest standards in patient care. We have also been chosen as the preferred Bariatric Center of Excellence for all major insurance companies in the region because of our ongoing commitment to excellence. The Bariatric Center of Kansas City is also a national leader in revisional bariatric surgery, turning old operations into new, effective ones.
We have three highly trained Bariatric Surgeons who are available at all times, Dr. Stanley Hoehn, Dr. Brice Hamilton, and Dr. Robert Aragon. While most of our procedures are performed at the Shawnee Mission Health Bariatric Surgical Hospital in Lenexa, Kansas, we also perform surgical procedures at the Shawnee Mission Medical Center in Shawnee, Kansas, a nationally accredited medical center. We provide a comprehensive team approach, and have assembled dedicated experts in every position to assist you on your bariatric journey.
The Bariatric Center places a high priority on all aspects of patient care, including pre- and post-procedural care. Patients are screened for physical and psychological health before they are approved for surgery to ensure their success and safety. Follow-up care includes physician visits and a variety of activities focused on social support, such as support groups and peer mentoring.
Types of Insurance Accepted
It is important to talk with your insurance provider to find out if your insurance plan covers weight loss surgery. In addition to asking about things like your coverage, your deductible and your maximum out-of-pocket costs, it is important to ask about whether there are any exclusions to weight loss surgery in your plan.
The Bariatric Center accepts many of the most common insurance plans, including United Healthcare, Aetna, Humana Choice Care, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna and AARP, as well as Tricare Standard and Tricare For Life and Medicare (as a non-contracted provider). In addition to these, the Bariatric Center is contracted with many more insurance companies, so be sure to call your provider.
